Wonky Pop is a term used to describe a loose grouping of musical acts that play what the BBC calls "quirky, catchy and credible pop". The style is rooted in the eccentric side of 1980s pop music. The BBC has reported that the term was both coined and is owned by the manager of Mika while The Independent has reported the term was coined by Peter Robinson founder of the blog Popjustice. However, the term was in use in 2005, predating any releases by Mika.
Wonky is a British English word meaning 'unsteady', 'shaky', 'awry' or 'wrong'.
